Abstract

Multilevel inverters have become more popular in recent years specially in High Power and medium Voltage Applications such as High Voltage DC Transmission system, Electric Drives, Traction motors, Electric Vehicles etc. Nowadays, Multilevel inverters have more demand in the power industry also. As the number of Voltage levels increases, the generated waveform approaches to sinusoidal with minimum harmonic distortion. This paper presents a Cascaded H- Bridge MLI (CHBMLI) for Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Symmetrical Multilevel Inverters have equal magnitude of DC sources, but in Asymmetrical Multilevel Inverters the magnitude of DC sources is unequal. With the same number of switches as a Symmetrical MLI, an Asymmetrical Multilevel Inverter delivers higher levels of output voltage. To decrease THD, Phase Disposition Pulse Width Modulation is used. A modified Multilevel Inverter with Asymmetrical configuration with different control topologies have been presented in this paper. A comprehensive analysis is carried out for the above proposed topology using MATLAB Simulink.
