Abstract

In the current scenario, optical communication is widely used because of its merits. The main advantages of optical fiber include flexibility, transparent, reliable, cost effective and secure. With these merits, it also has some demerits such as dispersion, which may affect the system performance. This research is done to analyze the effects of dispersion and how to overcome it. In this paper, the use of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in an optical transmission link is discussed. The main advantage of FBG is, it is cost effective and easy to use. To get better performance results, the transmission system is simulated and analyzed the output based on the parameters like grating length, MZ extinction ratio, type of pulse generator, erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) length, PR bit rate and length of the optical fiber. The variation of system performance is observed by varying the parameters of the system components and these parameters are compared with the help of eye diagram and BER values.
