Abstract

Following anomalous results, two hypsometers—Haglofs’Vertex III and Laser Technology TruPulse 200B—were tested. Under controlled conditions, height measurement by TruPulse is good, but the Vertex III we tested produced biased results. The two hypsometers were compared in field conditions. With a dense understory of brush, use of laser to measure horizontal distance is difficult and occasionally gives mistaken results (height measurement is highly underestimated)
