Abstract

There is growing evidence that isokinetic muscle strength, is one of the most common testing method why muscle strength is thought to be a major factor in athletic success. This method concerned the peak torque, the concentric ratio flexor/extensor, with comparison between sport specialities. Objectives Comparison of isokinetic muscle strength and ratio Hamstring/Quadriceps between Tunisian athletes. Methods Thirty handball, 35 volleyball and 36 soccer's Tunisian players are evaluated. We measured concentric measurements of the knee extensors and flexors at 60, 180 and 240 degrees/second on an isokinetic dynamometer “Biodex ® system 3”. Results We found that handball and volleyball players have a great isokinetic force (Nm/kg) in comparison with soccer athletes at three angular velocity test. Soccer's ratio Hamstring/Quadriceps is significantly great than the volleyball group at 60°/s and 180°/s. Conclusion Independently of the anthropometrical characteristics, the handball and the soccer players are more powerful in term of muscular force isokinetic on the level of the quadriceps's and the hamstring muscles compared to the volley-ball players. The justifications of these various results, can be related to factors in interaction with the requests and the needs for the discipline and the sporting practice.
