Abstract

In this paper, a compact size, wide-band, and dual-polarized rectangular slot antenna for 5G mobile phones is proposed. A rectangular slot and two feeding structures are used to realize wide bandwidth and dual polarization. Vertical polarization (V-pol) mode is excited by a coplanar waveguide (CPW), and horizontal polarization (H-pol) mode is excited by a microstrip line. It has -10 dB impedance bandwidths of 14.3 GHz (26.2-40.5 GHz) for V-pol and 14.0 GHz (26.0-40.0 GHz) for H-pol. The maximum gains of V-pol in 28 GHz and 39 GHz are 4.47 dBi and 3.79 dBi, respectively. Similarly, the maximum gains of H-pol are 3.51 dBi and 3.89 dBi, respectively. It has cross polarization level better than 20 dB. The characteristic of the antenna verified through measurements and simulations shows that this rectangular slot antenna design has the advantages of compact size, wide bandwidth, and dual polarization.
