Abstract

A compact wideband coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed tri-band printed antenna suitable for WLAN and WiMAX applications is presented and investigated. The proposed antenna consists of an folded open stub, an L-shaped and an F-shaped strip to realize a compact size of 26.3×16mm2. The antenna can generate three resonances covering the 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN bands and 3.5/5.5 GHz WiMAX bands. The measured impedance bandwidths (|S 11 | < –10dB) are 540 MHz (2.18-2.70 GHz), 530 MHz (3.37-4.00 GHz) and 1500 MHz (5.20-6.70 GHz). Details of the antenna design, simulation and measurement results are presented. The working tri-band could be tuned freely by adjusting design parameters. The proposed antenna shows reliable omnidirectional radiation patterns in all the operating bands. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement, verifying the feasibility of the design.
