Abstract

A novel compact size (30 mm × 30 mm) printed reconfigurable slot antenna is proposed. To achieve frequency agility, a microstrip line fed circular monopole is loaded on one surface of the substrate, while the other side is a printed square ring slot ground structure with a T-shaped strip line that is linked to a vertical strip line via an RF switch (pin diode). By simply switching the pin diode ON and OFF on this slotted ground structure, the current distributions on the slotted ground structure (SGS) will change and hence the antenna can switch between a dual-band mode (2.4 GHz and 5.2 GHz) to a single-band mode (3.5 GHz).
