Abstract

A Substrate Integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna with T-shaped slots along with the modified cross slot and two shorting vias in placed the middle is proposed in this paper. These antennas are designed to have wide bandwidth along with a compact structure. In this paper, the slots help in making the antenna to resonate at multiple frequencies which are shown by comparing different intermediate designs. The shorting vias are used to converge the existing modes with the higher-order modes. A 50-ohm inset feed is used as a feeding structure for proper impedance matching. The simulated results show wide bandwidth along with good radiation response. 1GHz bandwidth along with a peak gain of 3.85dB is observed from the simulated results of the final design. The prototype is fabricated for the final design which has dimensions of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.630\ \lambda\ \mathrm{X}\ 0.770\ \lambda\\mathrm{X}\ 0.030\ \lambda$</tex> . The antenna exhibits a good radiation pattern along with a low profile and compact structure.
