Abstract
A novel compact antenna is proposed based on a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW). Size reduction is achieved by applying an eighth-mode substrate-integrated waveguide (EMSIW). The shape of the EMSIW cavity is a right-angled triangle, and it occupies only 12.5% of the conventional full-mode SIW structure. Although the antenna size is minimized, high gain and radiation efficiency are achieved at 4.94 GHz due to the two open sides of the triangles. © (2014) Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
