Abstract

A compact six pairs of printed log-periodic fractal dipole antenna (FLPDA) is proposed in this article for wireless applications. These applications are terrestrial digital video broadcast-T band (470–862 MHz), 3.5WiMAX band (3300–3800 MHz), and the WLAN (wireless local area network) IEEE 802.11b, g frequency bands. The impedance bandwidth (|S11| < −6 dB) of the proposed antenna is extended from 0.5 to 10 GHz with an average gain of 5.5 dBi. The fractal LPD antenna is simulated and designed with the software high frequency structure simulator. Both numerical and experimental results show that the FLPDA antenna has stable directional radiation patterns and apparently miniaturized effect, which are suitable for various ultrawideband applications. The results show that the antenna achieves the necessary lateral size reduction of 45% of the normal log-periodic antenna while keeping its radiation characteristics nearly constant. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
