Abstract

AbstractA novel compact planar inverted‐F patch antenna with two shorted branch strips for triple‐frequency operation at about 900, 1800, and 2450 MHz is presented. The antenna has compact dimensions of 5.5 mm in height and 7.5 × 24 mm2 in area. The two shorted branch strips are printed on an FR4 substrate, and supported above a ground plane by plastic posts. In addition, the longer branch strip, which controls the operations at about 900 and 1800 MHz, is printed on both sides of the FR4 substrate, leading to the reduction in antenna dimensions. On the other hand, the shorter branch strip, printed on one side of the FR4 substrate only, controls the operation at about 2450 MHz. Details of the antenna design and experimental results are presented and discussed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
