Abstract

This research suggests a small, modified circular Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) structure that is intended for 5G sub-6 GHz (N77/N78 & N79) and WLAN applications. The suggested MIMO antenna is created on a FR4 substrate with a volume dimension of 24 × 36 × 1.6 mm3, a dielectric constant of 4.4, and a loss of tangent of 0.02. It operates in the 3.36 to 6.02 GHz range, which includes the WLAN (5.15–5.85 GHz) and N77/N78 & N79 (3.3–4.2 GHz/3.3–3.8 GHz & 4.4–5.0 GHz) bands and above 20 dB isolation is attained for the maximum part of the band. The good efficiency values of above 87% is obtained in the entire band due to good impedance matching at the ports. The peak values are 2.5 to 4.6 dBi are attained in the working region. The MIMO performance metrics Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC≤0.005), Diversity gain (DG≥9.99 dB), Total Active Reflection Coefficient (TARC≤-10 dB), Channel Capacity Losses (CCL≤0.05 bits/s/Hz) and Mean Effective Gain (MEG≤-3 dB) are evaluated and measured. The simulated radiation patterns are compared with measured results. The constructed prototype is examined; measured using and the parameters are compared with simulation results. The simulated and the measured values are in good agreement.
