Abstract
This paper proposes a compact rectangular horn with groove-loaded sections for obtaining a dual-polarized elliptical beam. In TE10-mode excitation, since the mode conversion is nearly independent of depth in the groove because of cutoff property, widths of the groove are determined for realizing a specified elliptical beam. Also, in TE01-mode excitation, depths of the groove are determined by optimization technique. As a design example, we present a rectangular horn with three groove sections in the X-band. The effectiveness of the proposed horn is verified numerically and experimentally.
