Abstract

In this article, a compact eight-element loop antenna array operating in the 3.6-GHz band (3.4–3.8 GHz) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) operation in the smartphone is presented. The proposed array consists of two symmetric four-antenna arrays disposed, respectively. The proposed array is expected to be placed on the frame of smartphone. Simulated results shows that relative impedance bandwidth of each element and array are all 13% or more for reflection coefficient less than −6dB (3:1 VSWR) at the center frequency of 3.6 GHz. Besides, desired gain, 2D/3D radiation patterns, system efficiency (more than 65%) are simulated and presented. In addition, good ECC (Envelope Correlation Coefficient) of less than 0.08 for any two antenna elements and acceptable isolation (better than 10dB) are also obtained.
