Abstract
The application of irreducible tensor techniques to state labelling problems is described. For the pentahedral subgroup of SO(4) it is demonstrated that a solution to the labelling problem using a set of mutually commuting operators is not possible if we demand that each of the operators transform irreducibly under SO(4).
