Abstract

SUMMARY This paper provides a brief description of the planning and evaluation function at the United Way in Franklin County, OH. Examples of principles of community research and action and community psychology that are incorporated in aspects of this function are highlighted. Organizations like United Ways are ideal settings in the local community in which to practice community research and action. Implementation of outcomes-based funding is used as an example of how a community psychologist might influence local policies and practices in the human services arena. A number of suggestions for students interested in applied careers are offered.
