Abstract

Various waste treatment plants are discussed in terms of noise emission levels, sources of noise, and possible noise abatement measures. Field measurements are reported for several types and capacity of plant. Particular attention is given to the problem of selecting measurement locations in order to obtain a valid measure of total radiated acoustic power and major source identification. Results are shown in terms of total emitted sound power versus plant type and capacity and illustrate the expected conclusion that noise levels generally increase with increasing plant capacity.
