Abstract

Consultation and community involvement are becoming an ever more important aspect of the delivery of public services. This paper draws attention to the key aspects of a consultation strategy being developed by Swale Borough Council and the methods that can be applied to undertake consultation and effectively involve the community in the delivery of services. The paper provides examples of projects carried out within the council's Engineering Services Unit where engineers have played an increasingly important role in involving the community in the delivery of projects and services. The paper also discusses the politician's role in the consultation process.
