Abstract

Washington, D.C. T wo urgent questions to be answered by today's educators are how can the mounting research on the relationship of the home to children's school success be translated into practical action and, how can we involve the community meaningfully in the education action? Seeking and providing answers to these and other questions is the purpose of the nonprofit, Washington, D.C.-based Home and School Institute devoted to the development of home-school-community partnership programs in education. Sharing the research rationale for these programs, a sampling of the HSI approaches that translate the research into action and effective involvement of the community in the work is the thrust of this article.
