Abstract
Gardening activities continue to be seen as paramount to reducing stress, improving mood and even promoting better nutrition. Research published last year in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health reported that gardening activities have been widely studied as methods of restoration from stress and negative mood, or as therapeutic interventions for people suffering from mental health–related difficulties. So it's no surprise that a Northern Virginia nonprofit is helping its residents with mental illness reap the benefits of its community gardening program.
