Abstract
This report presents the results of the Community Environmental Response Facilitation Act (CERFA) investigation conducted by The Earth Technology Corporation (TETC) at Alabama Army Ammunition Plant, a U.S. Government property selected for closure by the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. Under CERFA, Federal agencies are required to identify real property that can be immediately reused and redeveloped. Satisfying this objective requires the identification of real property where no hazardous substances or petroleum, products, regulated by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), were stored for one year or more, known to have been released, or disposed. The Alabama Army Ammunition Plant is a 2,187-acre site (more or less) located in Talladega County, Alabama, approximately 5 miles north of Childersburg, Alabama. The installation's primary mission was to manufacture explosives. Activities associated with the property that have environmental significance are the former manufacturing of explosives, the recycling of spent acids, and the disposal of wastes resulting from these operations.
