Abstract

Chamorro, an Austronesian language spoken in the Mariana Islands, is both the language of Micronesia with the largest number of speakers and one of Micronesia’s two most endangered languages. This note describes the community effort in progress in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) to preserve the language by revising the 1975 Chamorro–English Dictionary .
