Abstract
The article analyzes the monosyllabic nominative sentences from a communicative and pragmatic point of view. Their figurative-expressive potential is revealed in the canvas of the English-language artistic text. The functional loads of the structures studied are determined. It is proved that nominative sentences in artistic speech function not only as a means of depicting static reality, but also they can create a sensation of the "movement of events" in the reader, advance the described events forward, concentrating the attention of the addressee on important details of the work, from the point of view of the speaker.
