Abstract
Abstract In many ways, the Second World War was a replay of the First. Once again, Germany attacked and nearly conquered all of Europe. Again, German submarines came close to defeating Britain. And for the second time, the entry of the United States doomed the German hopes of dominating the world. The differences, however, overshadowed the similarities. World War II was the first truly global war, with battles and belligerents spread throughout the world. It was also a war of movement, in contrast to the trench warfare of World War I. Both aspects required communications technologies on a scale never seen before.
