Abstract

This is a personal review of a project started in 1974 using television for social education in Bombay. The three-year experiment involved two government and one nongovernmental organisations. While several lessons can be gained from this experiment, both in the use of a mass medium for social education as well as the prospects and problems of cooperation between the various bodies, there are also more valuable insights to be gained in the way the organisers evolve their own understanding of Development Education and Communication to make the programme more receptive and meaningful to the audience.
