Abstract

Information exchange between sources is an important part of distributed controllers in dc microgrid. Such communication can be implemented using a full topology or a reduced topology. With consensus control in dc microgrid, reduced communication topology have shown good performance. This paper includes a study to find suitable communication topology in a dc microgrid based on system parameters. The topology depends on system parameters such as distance between sources, source power and load power ratings. A mathematical model is derived for the secondary controller in dc microgrid using reduced communication and eigenvalue of system is analyzed to understand the effect of system parameters such as distance between sources, source power and load power ratings. This paper proposes rules for selecting the most suitable communication topology for desired controller performance. Results are validated using MATLAB/Simulink based simulation.
