Abstract

The wireless communications research communities are continuously working towards the activities for the fourth generation (4G) of communication systems. The community has generated a number of promising solutions for significant improvements in system performance. Adaptive coding and modulation, iterative (turbo) decoding algorithms, space–time coding, multiple antennas and MIMO channels, multicarrier modulation, multiuser detection and ultra wideband radio are examples of enabling technologies for 4G. Antenna arrays and MIMO technology is useful in urban warfare, where traditional communication platforms are unable to operate.
