Abstract

ABSTRACT Through analysing and comparing the English language Twitter discussion and traditional mass media coverage of an important environmental news event in China – Chai Jing’s documentary ‘Under the Dome’, this research aims to understand news flows between Twitter and traditional media during global events. Our empirical data demonstrate how transnational news flows operate at a granular level: from local to global, and from domestic audiences to international ones. Our research contributes to the developing literature on the intermedia agenda setting process that occurs between Twitter and traditional mass media regarding global issues.
