Abstract
Peter R. Carter, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Baylor University, Waco, Tex, has written an excellent book on the early care of hand injuries. He combines the better aspects of other efforts to cover this subject. It is one of those rare medical books that is informative and well written and is difficult to put down once it is started on. The material covered is well organized, concise, and complete within the range of the subject that is covered. The illustrations are uniformly excellent. The cartoons are both witty and illustrative. Most importantly, the information is accurate and helpful, with a superlative use of caveats and clinical pearls. References are appropriately dropped in favor of a selected reading list. The color anatomy plates organized at the end of the text are superior and a ready source of reference. This book is directed at emergency room personnel and other primary-care physicians
