Abstract

This article reviews the more common congenital ocular conditions affecting the globe and adnexa. The aetiology and clinical appearance of the diseases are described, and treatment options are briefly discussed where they exist. The article discusses the importance of both a thorough ophthalmic examination and familiarity with the mechanisms of ocular development, to enhance our understanding of the ocular pathology of these conditions and to achieve accurate diagnoses.
