Introduction

It is my intention in this letter to reflect on some of the common paediatric kidney diseases in Uganda and the region, underlining the potential for prevention. Surgical intervention for the identified cases prevents progress of kidney pathology, and constitutes secondary prevention of AKI and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurring due to birth asphyxia is another important condition early in life.
