Abstract

Blood glucose (BG) monitoring has become an inevitable part of diabetes management. It aids both people with diabetes and health-care professionals in understanding the influence of factors including diet, exercise, and medications on BG levels. The information is also vital to guide timely decision-making on a diabetes care plan to prevent or delay complications of diabetes. While choosing glucose meters for BG monitoring, the accuracy of the meter of choice should be of prime concern, as any compromise in the meter’s accuracy can lead to serious adversity. Several factors contribute to erroneous or inaccurate BG measurements, including patient-centered, physiological, environmental, and medication factors. The review shed insights into the factors that influence the accuracy of glycemic monitoring.
