Abstract

The small farms in the USSR were transformed into large farms through collectivization. Yet from the very first years of Soviet power state farms also were organized, mainly on the virgin lands. Only 2.5 million ha. of landlords' land were turned into state farms. Now 78,000 collective farms have 390 million ha. and 5,800 state farms 100 million ha. Some economists thought that collective farms should be transformed into state farms. The Communist Party came to the conclusion that this would be a mistake. We should develop kolkhoz property, raising it to the level of national property.
