Abstract

This paper describes the commissioning of the 37-km-long Delivery Tunnel, which forms the last section of the tunnels running from Katse Dam to South Africa as part of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP). Commissioning consisted of instrumenting the tunnel, pressure testing, steady state and dynamic flow testing under various flow and operating conditions, checking of filling and dewatering procedures and finally inspection of the Works. Only the main aspects are reported on, as the scope of the work undertaken was massive.
