Abstract

A high enthalpy, 400kW plasma testing facility was constructed at Chonbuk National University (CBNU) in Korea. Enhanced segmented arc plasma torches are used as the plasma sources, allowing it to produce enthalpies greater than 10MJ/kg. An ablation test of a carbon-based plasma facing material (PFM) was conducted at the plasma facility and the ablation characteristics were investigated. This facility produces particle flux greater than 1024/(m2s) and heat flux greater than 10MW/m2, that are relevant for testing PFM under fusion reactor conditions.
