Abstract
The Venezia is an interstitial-intracavitary hybrid applicator composed of an attachable perineal template, tandem and lunar ovoids that are designed for placing additional needles through them. The lunar-shaped ovoids form a ring that when clicked together provide the ease of insertion of an ovoid applicator in combination with the dose distribution provided by a ring. Ring-based applicators often present a challenge when commissioning the true source path due to the width of the ring's inner channel which must be wide enough for source travel along a curve. Image-guided HDR brachytherapy for tandem-based cervical applicators requires a standard loading, normalized to point-A which is then modified in a step-wise manner in order to achieve an optimal plan while maintaining the pear-shaped distribution. This work reports on the commissioning results for this applicator in addition to the determination of a standard dwell loading pattern based on the Vienna system.
