Abstract

Chiovenda in Fl. Somala 2: 91, fig. 54 (1932) described Commiphora guidottii as having an ellipsoid to obovoid fruit and the putamen as having an aril with four linear arms. The type collection is Guidotti 2. The collections of Guidotti have long been thought lost but recently a set of duplicates has been located in the herbarium in Bologna (BOLO). Examination of the fruits on the isotype of C. guidottii shows that the aril is in fact cupular with almost entire to slightly sinuate margin or with very short broadly rounded lobes. Obviously this is the same as the plant described by me in Kew Bull. 40: 71, fig. 14 as C. sessiliflora. This necessitates the following synonymy:
