Commercial and open-source based Intrusion Detection System and Intrusion Prevention System (IDS/IPS) design for an IP networks

Abstract

Network threats are a security risk which can be met on a daily basis. Because of this, it is important today to consider more complex security options than just ordinary firewall systems. This paper deals about the advantages and disadvantages of the solution called Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS). This paper describes the behavior and principles of IDS/IPS systems and presents the comparison of commercial and open-sourced systems.
