Abstract

East-West Trade: Further Progress? The author begins by examining the causes of the recent slackening in East-West trade, and then turns his attention to those factors which govern long- term exchanges between the two areas (international political situation, structural developments in the industrialized countries, rate of economic growth, etc.) He further examines the short-term situation, and concludes with the overriding importance of the international division of labour, and the harmonious development of East-West exchanges in a spirit of enlightened mutual self-interest.
