Abstract

Radial vibrations of thin cylindrical shells have been the topic of several recent papers. Bhuta has considered a simpler version of the problem partially solved by Brogan. It is implied that the more recent paper contradicts and, therefore, disproves the earlier results. The purpose of this note is to show that there is no contradiction. In fact, it is possible to calculate analytically the “critical velocities” that were found numerically. The calculation depends directly upon the conclusion of Brogan which was subjected to the strongest criticism.
