Abstract

We discuss some general features of proton decay. The effect of nuclear matter on the decay rate of a proton into a positron and neutral pion is estimated. The general analysis of proton-decay branching ratios starting from a complete set of operators proposed by Weinberg, Wilczek, and Zee is described. A graphical technique to evaluate amplitudes is discussed in detail. Constraints on resulting branching ratios are also described.
