Abstract
It is suggested that the heteroexcimer (C 6H 6. nCCl 4) ∗, involving essentially the 1B 2 u benzene singlet excitation, might be responsible for both the 490 nm transient absorption in pulse radiolysis and for the formation of a part of HCl and C 2Cl 6 in steady-state radiolysis of liquid benzene-tetrachloromethane mixtures, especially at low benzene concentrations.
