Abstract

Exception is taken to the discussion of Kaplan and Litrownik ( Behavior Therapy 1977, 8 , 383–392) concerning multivariate analysis of multiple criteria at several points. The distinctions that exist between multivariate analysis of variance and discriminant analysis are clarified and the use of discriminant analysis for classification purposes is addressed. Further more general guidelines are offerred for interpreting multivariate effects, and a common misconception concerning determining the number of significant discriminant functions is corrected.
