Abstract

AbstractCyclic oxidation and reduction of nitrite and nitrate in soil are analysed in terms of first‐ and zero‐order microbial kinetic reactions, respectively. A reversible reaction step involving these ions can account for a low, but constant concentration of nitrate in an unsaturated field soil for long periods or for considerable depths in a laboratory soil column.
