Abstract

The ability of neutron probes to provide accurate and reproducible soil moisture measurements is discussed. It is stressed that sensitivity of the probe in terms of soil moisture measurements is of greater interest than efficiency in terms of absolute counts or counting rate per millicurie. The importance of calibration curve slope rather than absolute count per minute at a particular soil moisture content is illustrated. (P.C.H.)
