The subtle problems lying in the interpretation of data on the supercurrent decay of underdamped Josephson junction are approached. An analysis of the unavoidable correlation among the free fitting parameters is presented. As a result we find that even the most appropriate approach to this problem leads to a certain unavoidable ambiguity in the interpretation of the data.
