Abstract

From measurements of x-ray peak intensities as a function of foil thickness, Bentley and Kenik have claimed that absorption of x-rays is not important, even for soft x-rays generated in ''thick'' foils of high atomic number materials. They further conclude that if a ''viewable'' image is observed, then x-ray absorption is not a significant effect. There appears to be a contradiction between this and previous work. There is no discrepancy between the various experimental results, but there are some inconsistencies in the conclusions drawn by Bentley and Kenik. These are pointed out. (GHT)
