Abstract

• Published excess molar volumes are inconsistent with the experimental density data. • Reanalysis of the measured data for select blends indicates that V E should be negative and not positive as initially reported. • Guidelines are provided for quickly checking for obvious errors in calculated V E values. A polemic is provided regarding the volumetric properties reported in the published paper by Balchandani and coworkers. The published excess molar volumes of binary and ternary aqueous blends of amine activated hybrid novel solvents depicted in Figure 2 of the published paper and listed in Table S10 of the accompanying Supporting Information are not consistent with the measured density. The authors reported positive numerical values for the excess molar volumes, however, a reanalysis of the experiment data for select mixtures reveals that the excess molar volumes are negative.
