Comments on ’’Effects of prestress on the acoustic behavior of panels’’ [C. L. Dym, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 55, 1018–1021 (1974)

Abstract

The previous paper suggests that the effect of prestress on the transmission loss properties of walls could be salutory. A more detailed examination of these effects demonstrates that the gains are likely to be quite small. However, the observation that this problem couples various effects that might be thought to be unrelated is still valid.
