Abstract

A polemic is given concerning the calculated partial molar volumes reported by Hao and coworkers for binary mixtures containing triethylene glycol and N,N-dimethylformamide. The authors' published partial molar volumes fail to correctly describe the molar volumes of the individual binary mixtures. Moreover the published partial molar volumes, V¯1 and V¯2, at mole fraction compositions of triethylene glycol and N,N-dimethylformamide of unity, respectively, differ appreciably from the calculated values based on the molar masses and densities of both neat mono-solvents.
